I completed two zoom lessons and two in person lessons and it was well worth the investment to becoming a better photographer. I have done plenty of my own research and practice but it would have taken much longer to accumulate the knowledge I gathered from the lessons. We started off with a call and sharing where I was at with my skills and what I was looking to learn during the lessons and getting instruction on the specific style I am going for in my photos. I felt like the lessons flowed really well and that we were able to focus just on what I wanted to learn and I could ask questions. Neil made me feel really comfortable in asking questions and would give suggestions that were extremely helpful.

If you are looking for a fabulous photography instructor, look no further than Neil Buckman at REDred. You will be hard pressed to find an instructor more passionate and excited about teaching you all you want to know about photography. He is genuinely interested in ensuring that you understand concepts and takes the time to explain them any number of ways until they “click” for you. I greatly enjoyed his introductory classes and I am looking forward to my next round. Neil is knowledgeable, experienced, and fun!

We purchased a new camera ahead of a major trip and felt the need for a crash course in using it with a greater understanding. Luckily, we found REDRed and were able to squeeze into Neil’s schedule. What a difference it made. We now know how to use the myriad of capabilities of our new camera. Neil’s classes were engaging and fun - while it seemed we were setting the pace and directing the learning, at the end of each class session it was clear that Neil’s skilled teaching techniques is what moved us forward. We not only understand the setting alternatives available to us in our new Nikon camera, but we have a general understanding of how each works and the interactions between the several “levers” that make for an optimal picture. If you are interested in learning how to use your camera more effectively in a casual but highly effective way, this is THE place for you!

I think it is unusual for an accomplished professional and artist to be committed to teaching, as Neil is, and to be very good at it as well. He has worked with me one on one, initially with a set focus on the broad topic of the Art of Composition. Neil presented his ideas about composition, and the sessions were highly interactive. At times I learned as much from some of the digressions as from the main focus. We then switched to open ended sessions. I could walk in with photos to be critiqued, needing help with post processing, or wanting to discuss equipment. He was always ready to give an in-depth explanation or demonstration of whatever I brought up. I also learned from his sharing aspects of his own work including his excitement about it. Finally, Neil puts me at ease with what I know (or do not know). While there are extreme differences in knowledge and experience, the interactions are as comfortable as speaking with a peer. It has been an enjoyable time and I always learn a lot.

We've rented out Neil's studio a couple times and we love it! He is very nice and accommodating. The studio its self is lovely with beautiful windows and plenty of room for shooting. I love that there is no minimum number of hours required to book the space because I tend to photograph quite quickly. Would suggest this studio space to anyone 🙂

Neil came to my home and gave me a lesson on Lightroom. I needed to have the lesson fit my particular needs and be structured around my skills and devices. Fortunately, Neil is a born teacher. He was very patient and made sure that I would come away with a solid understanding of how I can make Lightroom work for me.

I have spent a whole week with Neil and other students in the Arches national park and canyon land national park, it was the most profound memory of my life. I don't need to think too much of other things, I can focus on the photography every day and every hour. Neil help us in all directions. I like photography, but I start to learn photography no more than two months, what I have learned this week is far more than I learned last several years by myself, in fact, I have changed the cognition of photography. If there have other photography trip that works out for my time schedule, I am sure I will go !
